109 fall student-athletes earn Liberty League All-Academic honors
TROY, NEW YORK – Liberty League Commissioner Tracy King announced that 768 student-athletes in fall sports qualified for the league’s All-Academic teams in their respective sports, marking the second-highest total for a fall sport since the league began recognizing outstanding academic achievement . The total is surpassed only by the 835 student-athletes who earned spots on seven all-academic teams last fall.
This year, Ithaca College named 109 student-athletes to the fall all-academic team. Football received 36 laureates, field hockey and women’s football received 17 each. There were 13 participants in men’s football, 10 in men’s cross country, and eight awards each in women’s cross country and volleyball.
The Liberty League fall championships include men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, soccer, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. In order to be recognized as a member of the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher and a full-time student with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30. The Liberty League raised the GPA requirement from a 3.20 to a 3.30 in 2016-17 to meet established standards for eligibility for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
“The success of our student-athletes is always a source of pride for the Liberty League,” King said. “Our student-athletes consistently demonstrate that it is possible to excel not only on the playing field or court, but also in the classroom and in the community. I thank them for their great achievements.”
