Aldi has submitted plans for a brand new store and employment unit in Hampshire. As previously reported by HampshireLive, the German supermarket identified the site off the A36 Salisbury Rd in the Calmore area of Totton as the best location to allow the company to continue its UK expansion.
The application site currently shares a dedicated access point from Salisbury Rd with AFC Totton Football Club. According to planning documents submitted to the New Forest District Council, this arrangement will be retained if the proposals are approved.
The proposed development comprises the erection of two separate buildings – an Aldi food store and an employment unit – with both being accessed via Salisbury Rd. The 1,890sqm store will be single-storey, with a total of 144 parking spaces provided.

Planning documents state that the 1,848sqm employment unit will be two-storey, with 47 parking spaces proposed. The plans are now under consideration by the council.
Speaking in 2021, Lee McCandless, Property Director for Aldi said: “Our proposals represent an opportunity to build a new discount community food store, improving local shopping choice for residents in Totton. The proposed store would make use of a currently under-utilized site, which has been earmarked for development and would provide a sustainable future for it which will attract further inward investment to Totton.”
