It just means more to defeat a conference rival. Auburn athletics had a winning record across all sports against eight SEC opponents in head-to-head competition in the 2021-22 school year, according to research by the Montgomery Advertiser.
The Tigers outperformed Vanderbilt (5-2), LSU (8-4), Georgia (11-7), South Carolina (11-7), Texas A&M (11-7), Alabama (10-7), Ole Miss ( 8-6-1) and Mississippi State (8-7). Auburn finished with a 94-95-2 overall record.
Auburn men’s basketball was the SEC regular-season champion and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers’ equestrian team won the SEC championship for the fourth consecutive year, while the gymnastics team finished third at the SEC Championship and fourth at the NCAA Championships.
Auburn baseball also advanced to the College World Series as the No. 14 seed, and its women’s golf team made it to the SEC championship semifinals for the third straight year.
