Cassidy Thompson is the New Hanover County Schools Student of the Week
This feature is sponsored by O’Brien Service Company.
Student name: Cassidy Thompson
school: John T. Hoggard High School
class: 11
Best Subject: English
Least Favorite Subject: Mathematics, although I still love this subject.
Favorite quote or saying: “Trust Him with Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts before Him, for God is our refuge.” -Psalm 62:8; I also love “Don’t focus on your dreams and forget to live”. -Albus Dumbledore, from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
What drives you crazy? I don’t get irritated easily so there aren’t many things that drive me crazy. I would say what bothers me the most is when people show no compassion for others and put themselves above everyone else.
What makes you happy? I spend time with my family. Just laugh with them, fool around with them and enjoy their company.
Favorite book: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
Favorite movie: “The Princess Bride”
Favorite colorr: Red
Favorite food: Mac and cheese!
What do you do for fun? I like to spend time with friends, but I also like to read and play instruments! I play piano and cello.
Who do you most admire and why? I admire many people, but most of all I admire my parents. My father is a pastor, so both of my parents have to carry a lot of burdens when they pastor the church. It always amazes me how they show love to people even when they feel tired and overwhelmed. I hope that one day I can be like them, always happily putting the needs of others before my own.
Educational goals: My main goal has always been to go to Duke University for college! I hope to get the most out of my high school that I can – take the hardest classes and be involved in making my school a better place. I want to leave New Hanover School District a better place for future students!
Career goal: I have several career ideas. Now I’m thinking about music education. I am very passionate about music and it would be incredible to share my love of music with others and shape the lives of young children in the process. I also love to write, so I am interested in becoming an author.
