Chirag is angry about Nitish’s father’s second marriage
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s reference to Ram Vilas Paswan’s “second marriage in Delhi” on Tuesday drew an angry response from the late leader’s son and political heir Chirag Paswan.
Kumar had earlier in the day muttered “Biyahwa to dusra delhi mein zakar kye de na” (Married for the second time in Delhi) in a sort of reflection on the Bihari roots of the father-son duo. He also called Chirag as “Bachcha” (child).
“It is bad for the chief minister to make personal comments about my father after his death,” said the young Jamui MP, born to his late father’s second wife.
“I never stooped to this level. I never said anything about Nitish Kumar who was not transparent about his own personal life. My late father was like an open book,” said Chirag who reached out to him. The step-mother and step-sisters are cornered by her uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras.
Chirag, who is in Bihar to campaign for BJP candidates in the upcoming by-elections to the two assemblies, reminded Kumar “this boy bit the dust for you in the last assembly elections”.
The JD(U)’s defeat in the 2020 assembly elections was signaled when Chirag, who then led the LJP founded by his father, revolted against Kumar and fielded candidates, many of whom were BJP rebels, in all seats contested by the Chief Minister’s JD. (U).
Chirag said he wanted to oust Kumar from power and help the BJP form its own government, although the saffron party, which was then backing the JD(U) leader for another term, distanced itself from his political narrowness.
Later, Paras split the LJP disapproving of his nephew’s activities and Chirag was left in the political wilderness as the uncle was also inducted into the Union Cabinet.
For over a year, Chirag has been wooed by the BJP which has been weakened in the state after Kumar severed ties a few months ago.
