CUSD listens to special education presentation board – Chico Enterprise-Record
CHICO — Several female hearing members, special education staff and Chico-Unified board of education members shed tears Wednesday at a special board meeting in which three adult special education students spoke to the crowd.
One of the students, Miracle Traylor, cried when he presented and had to wait, but was finally able to finish his speech after being encouraged by his teacher and fellow students. Traylor spoke of how she was subjected in school when other students asked her, “What’s wrong with you?”
Board President Kathleen Kaiser is commended for ending the speech strongly.
A board presentation was heard by several members of the special education staff. Scipio spoke about special education skills, the hiring of a region-wide intervention team, and plans for the future and to increase the impact and increase the needs of students. Staff spoke about anticipating paraprofessional training days and hiring behavioral interventions. Special parent education meetings will be held in the future.
The board voted unanimously to purchase synthetic turf products and services from Sprinturf LLC for the Pleasant Valley High School turf project.
The board also unanimously decided to update and approve all of the board actions that were brought before the board. A list of the agenda items on the CUSD board of education can be found at https://bit.ly/3h47nYp.
