DU yet to finalize modalities for sports category trials | Delhi News

New Delhi: Detailed modalities pertaining to admissions under the sports category at Delhi University (DU) are still under deliberations, senior officials said on Friday.
While the university has announced that for the upcoming academic session, admissions to the sports and extra-curricular activities categories will have a weightage of 75% to trials, senior officials said that modalities pertaining to trials will be decided after the registrations for the common universities entrance test (CUET) are over.
All aspirants, including those seeking admissions under the two categories, will have to appear for the CUET and a weightage of 25% will be given to the entrance scores.
A senior university official said, “As of now, only a brochure on the CUET has been uploaded by the university. The rest of the process will begin after DU launches its own portal and publishes the detailed admission policy. While overall the policy is in place, authorities have to replace the merit-based scores by the CUET scores. ”
The official further added, “Covid-19 is not over yet and the entrances are being held in the respective states. So is it really possible or safe to call a large number of students to campus and conduct the trials? These are some of the questions to be answered. ”
Owing to the pandemic, the university last year had announced that students will be able to upload the best three certificates from the last four years. However, details pertaining to the same for the upcoming academic year are still awaited.
“In the last two years, we devised a good mechanism for admissions to the categories and now, at least for sports, we are getting the best students who are all medallists,” the official explained.
