Shinsuke Nakamura is about to set a new precedent for WWE. He ends up in an event where he faces the Great Muta. When asked about his big match on New Year’s Day, he had some funny comments about the event.
Nakamura is set to appear on Pro Wrestling NOAH on January 1st for their 2023 New Year’s show. As part of The Great Muta’s ongoing retirement tour, the former NJPW superstar will battle the legend During an interview with Tokyo Sports, Nakamura discussed the upcoming fight and he made a bold comparison.
Nakamura thanked the audience and his fans for the immense support that led to this. He also said that this is a one-of-a-kind event that no one has ever undertaken. At the end, he also dropped a very familiar phrase that made AEW famous.
“There were people in WWE who pushed me. It is nothing short of miraculous. Of course, I wanted to do it. It was a territory that no one had ever entered, or rather, it opened a door that no one had been able to open. Ha ha ha…it’s a real ‘forbidden door’.
When Muta decided to begin his retirement tour in June, NOAH identified Nakamura as his opponent. There were initial conflicts about the war. On the other hand, NOAH negotiated a settlement with the new WWE leadership following Vince McMahon’s resignation on July 22.
Nakamura and the Great Muta have not faced each other since October 2008. Additionally, the announcement deviated from WWE’s tradition. Before the news broke, WWE banned their talent from wrestling outside of their company.
