When Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano meet on Sunday [AEST] for the undisputed super-welterweight championship, Australian viewers will be keeping an eye ringside.

Tim Tszyu will be sitting here at the Dignity Health Sports Park, a keen viewer, getting a first-hand look at his next opponent.

The Australian is the mandatory challenger for the WBO belt and is set to have his world title shot against the winner of Sunday’s bout.

But Tszyu has told The Sun-Heraldthat even if his promoters are able to lock in the fight in Australia, he wants it to be held in America.

Why? Well, Tszyu got so much out of his US debut against Terrell Gausha that he is keen to continue building on that momentum in the “land of opportunities”, as he put it.

“If the boys try to convince me to fight here, I’m going to tell them that I want to go there,” Tszyu told The Sun-Herald.

“America is so big, the land of opportunities and dreams is endless. One-hundred thousand pay-per-view buys here in Australia is massive, a massive fight. One-hundred thousand in America is dog s ***. So you can not even compare.

“If you become a pay-per-view star in America, you’ve made it worldwide. The money, the status, everything triples. I’m in this game for a little bit, so I have to make the most of every opportunity. I’ve got to fight in places where I can only dream about. One day I will retire and will be living here in Sydney, kicking back. I’ll be able to talk about the things I did in my life. ”

Speaking in the lead-up to his fight with Gausha, Tszyu spoke glowingly of his time in America, telling Morning Kombat he was “buzzing”.

“Having my first spar here in America was incredible,” he said at the time.

“It’s like a new chapter and beginning. I’m sure there is going to plenty of years ahead [here]. ”

And the Australian told The Sun-Herald that Vegas is his preferred venue for his next fight, be it with Charlo or Castano.

“Everyone is interested, everyone is pumped,” Tszyu said of the reaction to his Gausha fight. “You’ve got guys like Errol Spence Jnr talking about the fight, all those boys who are up there all watching the fight and talking about it. We do not have that here in Australia when I was fighting Aussie fighters. I need to be there. ”

Speaking to earlier in the week, Tszyu revealed that he would prefer to see Charlo get up on Sunday because his “big mouth” will “make the build-up and fight a bit more interesting”.
