James Gunn celebrates his first day as DCU boss with a classic Superman reference
Writer/director James Gunn shares how excited he is to be directing DC Studios alongside producer extraordinaire Peter Safran.

Gunn and Safran have a four-year exclusivity deal with DC, meaning they can’t develop non-DC studio projects until November 1, 2026. However, Gunn would continue to work with Marvel Studios on his remaining two releases Guardians of the Galaxy installments, till May 2023 when those projects are promoted Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Opens in theaters. Similar to how DC Films would now be known as DC Studios, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was replaced by the much smaller DC Universe (DCU), the same name used for DC’s main comic book continuity.
