La Salle Athletics and The Brandr Group Launch Group Licensing for Student-Athletes
General | November 2, 2022
PHILADELPHIA – La Salle University Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have created a group licensing program for student-athletes competing on all varsity Explorers 19 teams. This partnership allows La Salle student-athletes to monetize their name, image and likeness (NIL) , using the school’s official trademarks and logos.
“We are very excited to partner with The Brandr Group, an innovative company that will expand NIL opportunities for our student-athletes,” said Vice President of Athletics Brian Baptiste. “La Salle is committed to providing the tools our student-athletes need to succeed in this new and evolving world of intercollegiate athletics. We look forward to building strong relationships that support our student-athletes while also engaging our Explorer community.”
The collaboration with TBG allows for the collective use of student-athletes’ NILs in licensing and marketing programs, along with La Salle logos and insignia. Student-athletes will have the option to voluntarily join the group licensing program. Participation in the program will not limit any rights of the student-athlete in their individual licensing and marketing activities. Prospective licensees interested in receiving additional information should contact Jim Naish at TBG.
TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program and develop licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of experience collectively managing some of the world’s biggest brands, TBG also manages the group rights program for the NFL, NBA and MLB player associations in the student space.
Products that incorporate team logos, player names and numbers have been a significant portion of licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level for decades, and this program opens up the same opportunities for student-athletes.
“We are very excited to work closely with La Salle Athletics to increase NIL opportunities for their student-athletes,” said Rick Perko, TBG Vice President of Program Development. “Explorers student-athletes will now have the opportunity to financially benefit from their NIL through co-branding opportunities in La Salle’s merchandising and sponsorship portfolio. We look forward to working together on an exciting new program that supports La Salle’s student-athletes and empowers their dedicated fans.”
While no specific timeline has been set, fans can expect to be able to purchase official Explorers merchandise once TBG has reached agreements with the appropriate license holders of the La Salle trademark.
