Mohammad Azharuddin, one of the most stylish batsmen the world has ever seen, has a wish to set up a Cricket Academy in Bhubaneswar. In this regard, the former skipper had a discussion with the State Sports Secretary on Saturday.
In an exclusive interview with OTV, Azharuddin said, “Odisha has plenty of talents. Though they have the makings of good players, they are deprived of opportunities to play international matches. Similarly, in rural areas, the youths have tremendous potential but not as fortunate as their counterparts in urban areas. ”
“If they are trained, they can secure their place in Team India,” he said.
“I am looking for a suitable patch of land in Odisha. “If the government provides it, I will establish a Cricket academy and, with whatever experience I have, will train the boys here,” said the former captain.
During the discussion, Azharuddin took a stroll down the memory lane and said he still remembers the match he had played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack and the record he has in his name.
Azharuddin’s score 153 off 150 balls against Zimbabwe at Barabati Stadium on April 9, 1998 is the highest individual innings at the venue.
Earlier in the day, the cricketer had visited Kalinga Stadium and spoke highly of the infrastructure developed.
