NA Speaker dismisses disqualification reference against Zardari

PPP Co-Chairperson Zardari has been disqualified in the reference.

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf dismissed a reference to the disqualification of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

The NA Speaker dismissed the reference under Article 63(A) of the Constitution. PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari filed the reference seeking the disqualification of the former president to get the car from the Toshakhana gift deposit.

The NA Speaker sent a copy of its decision to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The reference was filed in the NA Secretariat on 12 October.

In reference to Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, the PPP leader has been disqualified for buying a car from Toshakhana.

According to the reference, Zardari got three cars from Toshakhana when Yusuf Raza Geelani was the prime minister. It says that Zardari, being the president, is not eligible to take a car from Toshakhana.

It may be noted that the ECP had recently disqualified PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana reference for misdeclaration of assets.

The ECP said that Imran Khan filed a false affidavit and was found involved in corruption. A criminal case has also been ordered to be registered against the former prime minister.
