Pakistan pumped England by ten wickets in the second T20I in Karachi after a rip-roaring batting display of batting from Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. But the two sides will face each other in the third T20I in the space of just 24 hours on Friday, 23rd September.
The third T20I couldn’t have come sooner for the visitors who wanted to put the harrowing loss in the previous encounter behind them with a solid performance. Meanwhile, Pakistan have answered the questions regarding their opening batters in the most comprehensive way possible, but the jury is still out on the contribution of the bowlers and middle-order batters.
Venue: National Stadium, Karachi
Date & Time: September 23, 8:00 PM
Where to Watch: Sony Sports Network and SonyLiv app
The surface at the Karachi Stadium is an absolute belter and suits the batters with its shorter boundaries. The previous encounter saw the hosts chase down a surmountable target with utmost ease. The pace bowlers will get the ball to nip around a bit in the early stages but that’s pretty much the only joy the bowlers seem to have on this batting-friendly track. Chasing is the preferred modus operandi for the skipper winning the toss at this venue.
Probable Playing XIs:
Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Babar Azam (c), Haider Ali, Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Usman Qadir, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Shahnawaz Dahani
Philip Salt (wk), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali (c), Sam Curran, David Willey, Luke Wood, Liam Dawson, Adil Rashid
Probable Best Performers
Probable Best Batter
Mohammad Rizwan was the leading run-getter in 2021 in the shortest format of the game and the way he is batting at the moment, it looks likely that he will once again top the charts this year. The opening batter was overshadowed by his captain’s century in the second T20I, but his knock of 88 runs meant that he has registered consecutive fifties in his last three innings.
Probable Best Bowler
The express pacer has been spearheading the Pakistani bowling line-up in the absence of the injured Shaheen Afridi. Haris Rauf has done a commendable job in the shortest format of the game and has put his hand up whenever the team requires a wicket. While his compatriots were getting tonked all around the park in the second T20I, Rauf returned with impressive bowling figures of 2/30 in his four overs.
