Seton Hall hosts its annual Student-Athlete-Leadership Forum

South Orange, New Jersey – A landmark event of Assisting Athletes in Leadership Training (HALL) program.On October 25, 2022, the Seton Hall University Department of Athletics hosted the 13th annual Patrick M. and Mary Ann Pfaff Murray Leadership Forum for Student-Athletes, welcoming a trio of distinguished Seton Hall University professionals and alumni to Bethany Hall at Seton. Hall Campus for career-oriented discussions and networking opportunities. The event was first held during Seton Hall’s fall semester.

The Leadership Forum was renamed in September 2015 in honor of Patrick Murray ’64, MBA ’72 and Mary Ann Pfaff Murray, who made a generous gift to the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund in support of the event.

Three panelists were invited to participate:

  • Sandra L. Richards ’97, ’99 is managing director/head of global sports and entertainment and segment sales and engagement at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management
  • Anthony Mascherelli ’90, Partner, Ernst & Young, Managing Partner, New Jersey Assurance
  • Jessica Springstead EDD ’15, president of the New Jersey Athletic Trainers Association

Seton Hall Hall of Famer Robin Cunningham ’78, ’84, ’96, who was the first female scholar-athlete in school history and the first woman to have her number retired, served as moderator for the event.

Throughout the evening, panelists shared insights and advice from their own experiences and their respective paths to becoming leaders in their fields. But instead of being a simple lecture for student-athletes, the event offered student-athletes an opportunity to engage in an open dialogue with the panelists.

In addition to the question and answer session at the event, a reception was also held in the Bethany Hall lobby where student-athletes were given the opportunity to speak one-on-one with each of the speakers.
