Will not hesitate to reclaim land from Hyderabad Cricket Association: Sports minister V Srinivas Goud | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: A day after promising to take action against the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) in the aftermath of the stampede at Gymkhana ground, sports minister V Srinivas Goud said the state government would not hesitate to resume the land from HCA given to it to build the Uppal stadium if it did not fall in line and maintain transparency in selling match tickets.
Speaking to TOI, the minister said the government was not convinced with the way HCA handled the sale of tickets and subsequent incidents.
“The government had allotted the land to promote sports and for the benefit of cricket lovers. The government cannot be a mute spectator if things are going wrong,” he said. Soon after the unsavory incidents, the minister held a meeting with HCA representatives and officials and reviewed the situation following directions from the chief minister’s office.
“Incidents like stampede at Gymkhana ground will definitely dent the image of city and state. We will not allow such incidents to repeat. We have issued a warning to the HCA management,” he said.
He said the government was closely watching the developments in the HCA. He alleged that the HCA has not been using funds and revenue to promote sports activity in all the districts.
“We have asked the HCA to provide details of ticket sales for Sunday’s match. If any irregularities are found, the government will take action against the people concerned,” he warned. The minister said the TRS government has been giving top priority for sports activities and coming up with a sports policy to encourage various sports and incentives to sports personalities.
The minister said all the government departments, including police, municipal administration, fire services and other departments were helping the HCA to make foolproof arrangements for smooth conduct of the match.
